the sun and christmas

last night I read a rather beleaguring post that said we'd all been tricked into celebrating the winter solstice by the placement of christmas. some people had argued about this, of course.

but one thing I know: christmas dinner is delicious. so, if we just manage to eat it slightly off the winter solstice, surely that will solve any provlem? ;)

This is bullshit. Meanings of ritual and myth change through time, rarely staying the same. Maybe once the winter solstice was celebrated but now it is the birth of Christ, as it has been for 1500 years. Of course, the 25th had nothing to do with the winter solstice for most of the world even before the birth of Christ. The day is the traditional birthday of Mithra, a Persian deity who was in vogue in Rome circa 0 AD. Still, now it is the day set aside to recognize the birth of the Christian savior. People are so freakin stupid these days. I am so tired of hearing crap like this. Read a fucking book folks. Study up on this shit before you say it.
Not you Shampoo, the moron who posted your beleguring post of stupidity.
